Horror series BLACK VEIL filming in Plant City locations

The co-creator of the 1999 hit movie, The Blair Witch Project, Dan Myrick, spent the past week in the Plant City area filming a new horror anthology called Black Veil.

"I've been in L.A. for a couple of decades but I always wanted to bring some production back to Florida,” Myrick said. "The Black Veil anthology overall kind of dabbles in southern Gothic mythology.”

As the sound of cannon fire, rowdy buccaneers, and the glimmer of parade beads fade, we say goodbye to the string of Gasparilla Pirate Festival events, while at the same time welcoming Arts Month to Tampa Bay.
 
Gasparilla Festival of the Arts celebrates their 50th year, February 29th - March 1st, with Gasparilla Music Festival following just behind March 7 - 8th, and of course closing out the season is the Gasparilla International Film Festival March 17 - 22nd. In its 14th year, GIFF celebrates the best in film, animation, and digital media. 
 
This year GIFF is returning to its roots with a focus on local and state filmmakers.  With dozens of features, short films, and documentaries, there is a flavor for any taste.  Over the course of the week, you will have the opportunity to experience wonderful films from around the world.  I encourage you to find movies that do more than just delight but also challenge your way of thinking. 
 
Cinema is one of the most important tools we have to communicate ideas and perspectives.  Film is a shared experience, one that invites a dialogue between the audience and the filmmaker.  Take this time to meet new people, engage with other filmmakers and artists, and substantively talk about the films you’ve seen.
 
Art Festivals of all types are both a reflection and a beacon to the rich culture that makes up the fabric of a community.  We hope you will help support the arts by attending and participating all month long.
