The Right Stuff Streams on Disney+ this Fall
Disney+ is going to space: "The Right Stuff," the streaming service’s first scripted NatGeo original series, is inching closer to its fall premiere, and the series’ cast unveiled a new clip of the show at Comic Con last Saturday. This season was filmed in Florida, featuring recognizable locations off the Space Coast. Last year, Tampa set the scene for a three-day shoot, employing 171 people.

Pandemic notwithstanding, summer tends to be a slow time for film and digital media throughout the state. "Snowbird" productions return to their respective parts of the country. Local production companies and crew find the nearest air-conditioned space to hunker down for what is typically a hot, humid, and often drenched, summer. Add COVID into that recipe, and the film industry can seem like a ghost town at the moment.
That reality is backed up by our internal numbers. We have seen a record-slow summer thus far. Marketing efforts can seem futile as we try to break through the noise of pandemic-related media. The news and lack of work can be overwhelming and incredibly detrimental to our mental health. We are no different than anyone else. We go through periods of depression, boredom, and uncertainty.
Several tragic deaths have occurred over the last few months, some personal to me; others have had a far-reaching impact on the production community. It's important to remember we are all in this together. Know a cast or crew member who is going through a particularly hard time? Reach out to them. Remind people they matter, and you are there for them. Remember you can make a huge impact on someone's life, particularly in the hard times we are experiencing. Something as simple as a text or a phone call can make all the difference. And if you are the one in need of help, never be afraid to ask.
