July Recap

Florida Filmmaker at the 2024 Olympic Trials!

Our friend and filmmaker, Jordy Klein, was hard at work at the Olympic Swimming Trials, using his custom underwater dolly to film qualifying swimmers. Klein and his team designed, fabricated, and operated the underwater camera tracking system.

He also had the opportunity to meet and work with three-time Olympic gold medalist, U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer, International Swimming Hall of Famer, and the voice of NBC Swimming -- Rowdy Gaines.

We are proud of this Florida filmmaker, and if you want to learn more about him, check out our podcast episodes featuring Jordy and his father, filmmaking pioneer Jordan Klein Sr. Stream Loose Framing Podcast on Spotify, Google, Amazon and Podbean, or check out the video version of these episodes at the links below.

With your support, this play will be presented at the Straz’s Jaeb Theatre in March 2025

When The Righteous Triumph is a play informing, inspiring, and celebrating Tampa’s contribution to a pivotal moment in our nation’s civil rights history when we united for change.

Tampa Playwright Mark Leib recreates the 1960's successful desegregation of the Woolworth and downtown lunch counters in Tampa. He brings us the central figures in their full humanity. We see Reverend A. Leon Lowry, Tampa’s revered NAACP leader, Tampa Mayor Julian Lane, Cody Fowler, the white lawyer known for his defense of African Americans, and a young Clarence Fort, head of the local NAACP youth council.

Stageworks premiered this groundbreaking performance in 2023 to outstanding reviews. With your support, in March 2025 the production will be seen by a larger audience in the Jaeb Theatre at the Straz Center and will showcase the proud history and diverse talent that enriches Tampa Bay. As this carefully documented story comes to life on the stage, it will highlight the timeless words and images of the 1960's civil rights movement and the powerful testimony of Reverend Lowry.

How to support: For this inspiring production to be performed at the Straz’s Jaeb Theatre beginning March 12th, 2025, including matinees for area high school students, $200,000 must be raised. A growing group of community leaders and citizens seek your support, including Ms. Shirley Lowry, former US Rep. Jim Davis, State Senator Arthenia Joyner, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio; retired Judges EJ Salcines and Perry Little; business leader Sandy McKinnon; historian Dr. Gary Mormino; and educator Lincoln Tamayo. Tax deductible donations earmarked for the play can be made to Stageworks Theatre. Link below to donate, and 100% of your donation goes to the play.

When the Righteous Triumph is a shining example of the best of Tampa, Florida, and America when we unite for a just cause. You will want to see it, support it, and experience this pivotal and triumphant moment in our history.
