As the production industry awaits word from Tallahassee on new incentives, Film Tampa Bay Executive Director Dale Gordon has plans to develop commercial production in Tampa Bay.
The commercial industry is “the bread and butter of our community,” she said.
In the last six months, Doritos, Kia, BMW, Audi, Bright House Networks, Verizon, Publix and Grow Financial have shot commercials in the Bay area.
These projects can carry budgets averaging $400,000 to $800,000 in a week, she said.
Gordon plans to reach out to advertising agencies locally as well as in New York, Chicago and other major markets.
“They come here not because of the state incentive program, but because we have blue skies, green grass and a great workforce,” she said. “They need somewhere in winter that looks like summer.”
Gordon said her personal goal is for Tampa Bay to become the top commercial market in the Southeast.
On Friday, Gordon joined Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. President and CEO Rick Homans and others at Tampa Theatre to discuss goals of Film Tampa Bay.
